PC Repair System
The PC Repair System is another winners of the 32 MB USB drive contest. It was submitted by Decoy. Decoy wrote:
I was thinking a PC Repair/Toolkit would be nice. There are a variety of free and/or open-source tools for file recovery, anti-virus, anti-spyware, system info & system maint.
With a wide open description of the system, I was free to put in pretty much whatever I wanted to. There are 37 applications in total! A complete list can be found below.
Downloads Back Online!
Thanks to several generous DCoTers and a few file sharing sites, the downloads are back online. You will automatically be redirected to one of their websites when you donwload.
Download and Install
To get the PC Repair System system, simply download PCRepairSystem.zip and extract the contents to any USB drive 32 MB or greater. Remove the USB drive from your system and plug it back in. You’re off and running!
If you would like to help me conserve bandwidth, you can download the torrent file instead.
System Contents
There is a lot of work from different people that go into the applications in this system. In general, I just put the system together and make it work as one. This is a list of all the programs on the system, giving credit where credit is due.

Some time ago, I did a little write up on the DCoT PC Repair System. This pint-sized savior on a (USB) stick has been more than handy on occasion. you can even imagine. To start i recommend you to download PortableApps, lets say its like a suite of Portable Apps, it even has a launcher. So if you want to try these kind of software i recommend that for a start. Another pack you may want to try is PC Repair System, it will help you if you got problems with a PC, it has lots of recuperation tools. Still think this isnt worth?, in wikipedia theres a list of portable software, not all of them but a nice list indeed.

A bug was found in the PC Repair System that prevented the File Assassin program from running. I have repaired the problem and uploaded a new version of the download.
If you would like, you can repair the problem yourself. Simply go into the FileAssassin folder in the USB drive. Then rename FileASSASSINext.dll to FileASSASSIN.dll.
January 11th, 2007 at 8:38 am
Just a heads up, ERASER.DLL is missing from Eraser. You need to run the official installer and copy the DLL from C:\Windows\system32 to the Eraser directory on your USB drive.
January 11th, 2007 at 8:55 am
That would explain why it worked on all my systems without any problems. I’m presently building a clean system and I hope to have this problem resolved later today.

The downloads are being hosted by a number of different locations. If you do not get a good download from the first try, give it a go again. You should get a different location.

It’s pretty cool to fit things on a USB drive. It’s even more cool when you can fit it in a 32M one. USB PC Repair System fits thirty seven applications onto a USB drive and all of them are open source to help fix or repair your PC. Windows only, but what are you waiting for? Interesting question. I guess the simple answer is “As long as you know what you are doing and use them safely.”
Just like the adage “Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.”, I guess we could say “Software doesn’t screw up computers. People screw up computers.”

I have 2 USB pens with problems, I cannot format them they might be “broken”! Is it possible to solve this?
January 17th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
When this is an issue, it is often because of either 1) physical damage or 2) they have been disabled using a physical locking mechanism. My advice? Throw them out and get a couple of new ones.

A couple of hints here…
1. Several of these apps are not truly “portable”. Granted they run fine off USB but they leave a mess of registry entries behind (usually under HKCU\Software hive) - and any settings you wish to change from defaults won’t migrate across different PC’s. To ensure that the computer is left in a clean state and save your settings on the USB key you need to package these apps - adding reg entries, running the app, then exporting & removing entries on exit. The simplest method I’ve found is RegRapper although it’s limited to checking a single key (http://portableapps.com/development/projects/registry_rapper).
Apps requiring this treatment (ie those that write to registry) - Eraser, Filemon, LSASecretsView, Process Explorer, ProduKey, Regmon, Rootkit Revealer, WirelessKeyView.
2. File size can be reduced, in some cases quite dramatically, by compressing EXE’s & DLL’s with UPX. http://upx.sourceforge.net or http://upxshell.sourceforge.net/. The 26Mb used by these apps came down to less than 17Mb following compression & “rapping” - thus leaving more space on your USB for other stuff.
I can confirm EJ’s comment regarding the need for eraser.dll off a full install.

Thank you for the PC Repair System with the DCoT USB Menu. This is really useful!
1) I downloaded it by Torrent on March 11th and have uploaded it 3.538 times so far. I have noticed a Tracker Status error and thought you should know. [Scrape Error: Not found. This tracker’s announce path “announce” does not match the announce path “scrape” in the request.] The Tracker URL is http://tracker.bittorrent.com:6969/announce. I am using Azureus v2.5.0.4.
2) TIP: I found I can add divider lines in the DCoT menu by adding a program title line without the other 3 lines — Like this:
