The Ultimate Zune Hack List
Even though the Microsoft Zune is extremely new, people are out here trying to make it do more than it does out of the box. Here is a list of hacks that I have collected:
- Make the Zune Appear in Windows Explorer (or use the patch)
- Wirelessly Send Files to Other Zunes
- Install A Bigger Hard Drive
- Make Zune Work in Vista
- Peek at Zune Contents From Your Mac
- Zune on Windows XP Pro 64 bit
- Change the Zune Icon
- Zune Internal Components
- Extend the Range of Your Zune FM Transmitter

I highly recommend backing up these registry values before modifying anything. If you don’t know how to do that, I don’t recommend that you even attempt this right now =)
1. Make sure your Zune is not plugged in and your Zune software isn’t running
2. open up regedit by going to the start menu and selecting “run”. Type regedt32 and hit “OK”
3. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\
4. Search for “PortableDeviceNameSpace”. This should be contained in the Vid_####&Pid_####\########_-_########_-_########_-_########\Device Parameters within the above …\USB\ The ##’s listed here will be numbers and letters specific to your Zune
5. Change the following values:
* EnableLegacySupport to 1
* PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell to 0
* ShowInShell to 1
6. Plug in your Zune, and make sure the Zune Software starts up.
7. Hopefully at this point you can open up “My Computer” and browse your device, though it does NOT show up as a drive letter.Right now I can access it both as a harddrive and sync through the Zune Software.

August 17th, 2007 at 11:58 pmBe very carefull when viewing your zune in the explorer, I recently attempted this and it crashed my zune, it now refuses to play more than 3 songs with out freezing and shutting down.

November 3rd, 2007 at 2:51 pmI can see my zune when i open “my Computer” now, but there is not really any difference of what i could put on there. I also have the Registry crack to add more than just mp4 video files. All i am looking for is something so i could add .Divx\.Xvid files.
